April 2005 Memo

Spring has sprung and everything is new again. I love this time of year. The grass is greening up, and our first cutting was the 13th, that is after buying a new lawn mower. Funny how they don’t last forever. Well, we can’t complain, the old one lasted for seven years. I don’t think it helped that Mom used it last year to cut the weeds down on the empty lot next door. It’ll be nice once the new neighbors get started on their house, at least we won’t have to look at the weeds anymore.

I’ve posted my review of Catherine’s Heart, by Lawana Blackwell here. I’m half way through the next book in the series. I’ll post it when I’m done, so keep checking back for it.

This month’s memo is going to be another short one. One reason is, not much happened this month, and for two I was too busy editing Too Many Speed Bumps, and the good news is … drum roll please … I have finished the big edit!!! JJ That is also the reason this memo is a little late, I finished editing on the 28th of April. I can’t tell you what a good feeling it is to have that behind me.

Next week, I’ll begin the next edit, making sure everything flows, and everything fits. I’m hoping to have it done by the end of May, so we might have a few short memos this summer.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I’ll let them make up for the lack of words here this month.

The first picture, taken April 29th 2005, is our Joshua trees. See how they’ve grown. If you look close, you can see how the ends, of the bottom leaves on the plant on the right, are starting to turn brown. I’m told that means the plant isn’t getting enough water. We’ve noticed though, the bottom leaves do this regardless of the amount of water they get, then they turn completely yellow, and we take off. This makes sense, otherwise how would you get a “tree” out of the plant?

Anyway, we have been watering them just a little bit. Not much mind you, just enough to keep them alive. I can’t believe how fast they’re growing; the one on the right, now creeping past the windowsill, is now nine and a half inches long. The plant on the left is just over seven inches.

I hope our next picture shows what I saw when I looked up at the wispy clouds on April 4th. You might have to look real close to see the green and blue colors in the cloud. I couldn’t believe it when I saw this; I’ve never seen color in clouds before. I’ve wanted to see the Northern Lights for a long time, and I can imagine how spectacular they’d be if a little color in the clouds causes me to get the camera out. I hope you can see it!

I guess that’s it for this month, until next time, enjoy the sunshine, read much and be well. J
