INTRODUCTION
Too Many Speed Bumps: A Journey of Healing is the continuation of my life-story which began in, Too Much for One Lifetime: How to Remain Positive Despite Physical Disabilities & Other Life Challenges. In, Too Much, as I have begun to refer to it, I shared my early years and recounted the many challenges I endured.
As I got older, the arthritis began to disfigure not only my legs, but also both my hands, which eventually required reconstructive surgery. My first hand surgery, although it did relieve the pain, was otherwise a disaster.
When a friend suggested I see Dr. Bhalla in Burlington, Ontario, I knew I’d finally found a doctor who knew what he was doing. Dr. Bhalla, working out of Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, preformed a great many of the surgeries that followed.
Too Many Speed Bumps, picks up my story some years later from where Too Much leaves off. In the first few chapters, I recall some important events, which took place in the interim.
As I wrote Too Much, I found a healing occurring in me as I clearly saw the path my life had taken. It was no less healing to write Too Many Speed Bumps, and maybe in a way, it was even more healing. Unlike the first book, I now realized as I wrote, what was happening, both on paper and to me. I’m amazed just how much, I’ve grown over the last few years.
They say writing is very therapeutic, and I believe that. Through my writing, I feel as though I am able to see things more clearly than ever before. Life continues to teach me much, and I look forward to what comes next.
I hope you’ll join me now, on a journey of healing. And it is with hope, my journey will give you some insight into a life, some would say isn’t worth much. I beg to differ with anyone who says life is not worth living. It’s not always easy, but staying positive is like fuel to the tank.
So with our tank full of encouragement, high hopes and a positive attitude, let’s head down a road filled with too many speed bumps, and conquer each one as they come our way.
