This forth and final book in the Cape Refuge series is by far the best! Talk about on-the-edge-of-your-seat! It was difficult to put this gripping story down. It begins with our dear Chief of Police, Matthew Cade, being awaken at 4:30 a.m. Scott Crown, the newest addition to the small Cape Refuge Police Force, has found a young resident of the island dead in a boat.
Even though the boat was not in his jurisdiction, Scott pulled the body out and
back to shore, possibly destroyi
ng
evidence. Being a bit of a lose cannon Cade has trouble reeling in this
nineteen-year-old rookie. However, that is the least of his problems.
A famous mystery writer has moved to the island to do some writing. He’s a little eccentric to say the least. Could he possibly be behind the murder? Sheila Caruso, an ex-con and resident of Hanover House is trying to turn her life around. She gets a job with the mystery writer and finds a murder scene in one of his books which matches the recent murder.
When another young girl is discovered dead by Cade and Blair Owens, his soon-to-be-fiancée, suspicion turns to Cade. The evidence found a bit later in his truck doesn’t help to clear him.
Sadie, Sheila Caruso daughter, becomes involved in finding the missing girl who was with the recently murdered girl. Why does young Sadie feel she has a stake in finding this girl?
Matt Frazier is the first person Sadie met when she came to Cape Refuge and has become a friend to her. He’s also very interested in locating the missing girl, but is he really a friend? Scott Crown has also befriended Sadie and is also helping. It’s obvious Scott and Matt are not friends and both are competing for Sadie’s attention, but could one of them be the killer’s accomplice?
With everything else going on there is good news. Jonathon and Morgan are expecting their first child, but will the stress of the situation be to much for Morgan? After all, she did miscarry just last year. When Sadie turns up missing, soon followed by her mother, will they be found before it’s too late?
This is a great read and it’s extremely difficult to put down. I’m sorry it’s the last of the series. This series is a must-read!! Well done Ms Blackstock.
PS It’s interesting two discrepancies, one very early in the story, got missed by the editor.
