September 2003

Welcome to another monthly memo. Glad you could join us.

This month’s memo won’t be as long as I’d like it to be. With the children back in school, it’s time to start booking those wonderful author visits. So far I have been met with great enthusiasm. Several visits are already booked and we’re getting more every day. When I called the schools I visited last year, to let them know the second episode is available for their library, one school invited me back for another visit this year! To find out where I’ll be, just go to the “News” tabs on our Web site.

Now that another summer is over, we can start to settle into a routine. I will try and get the memos out during the first week of each month. That way I can share what has happened in the previous month. And of course keep you posted on upcoming events.

Hope you stay tuned!

Well, we finally received some much-needed rain, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. Fires all around our province are raging out of control. People I’ve talked to all say how wonderful it is that it’s raining. I haven’t heard that for a long time! I do hope we will hear more of that kind of talk in the future.

So, what is it about the book Lost and Found? Last month I talked about the different things that went on concerning getting the second episode published. It seems that the book getting lost and (hopefully found) has not run its course just yet.

When you publish books, or even brochures for that matter, you are required to send a certain number of copies to the National Library in Ottawa. I received a letter earlier this month from the National Library along with the “Receipt for Legal Deposit” for the copies of Lost and Found I sent to them a few weeks ago. There was only one problem. The receipt indicated that they had received The Rocking Chair Rescue which had been sent to them back in April. I checked the ISBN (International Standard Book Numbers) of the books I had just sent, and sure enough they had the correct ISBN … for The Rocking Chair Rescue!

I sent them an e-mail explaining the problem. I was asked to e-mail them everything again and then they could check on the situation … I wonder if I should have told them this book is living up to its name? Nah … let them find that out.

I had an e-mail today from the National Library and everything has been resolved. What happened is that they are so overwhelmed with the number of books being sent to them daily, that only now, had they gotten around to issuing the receipt for The Rocking Chair Rescue.

I was assured Lost and Found was not lost and that it has been processed and the “Receipt for Legal Deposit” was mailed today. So with that behind us we move forward.

That’s about all there is for this month. I hope you will stay tuned for next month’s memo. Until then, be well. J
