I have to give River’s Edge four hearts, not because it was bad, but because I could set it down. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve read all three books close together, or the fact that this book has, in a sense, the same theme as the first two books.

It is interesting to follow the lives of many of the characters we got to know in the first two books. River’s Edge picks up where Southern Storm left off. Blair is now a Christian and new owner of the local newspaper. Jonathon, her brother-in-law, is running for Mayor and he and Morgan are trying to start a family.

Lisa Jackson, wife of one of the mayoral candidates, and a relatively new friend of Morgan’s, disappears. Over time, everyone becomes a suspect, including her devoted husband, Ben. Cade begins his investigation only to find he’s not sure of anything. Why would Ben want to harm his wife just when they may be getting close to realizing their dream, that of having a child? Even their fertility doctor becomes a suspect.

When a local psychic gives Cade a tip, Lisa’s car, with her body in it, are discovered. This is only the beginning of the many twists and turns this story takes. Just when you think you’ve figured who done it, the author throws in another curve.

Morgan and Jonathon get more than they bargained for when they begin to see Lisa’s fertility doctor. Can they help the police solved this murder? Or, are they just pawns in a sick game?

Who murdered Lisa? How many more will die before the truth is finally uncovered? Will the election go on as planned, or was that the reason all along?

What part does Sadie, Jonathon and Morgan’s foster daughter’s mother, who has been in prison for the last year, but is now being released early, play in all this?

This is a well crafted suspense novel that will keep you guessing, and allow you to put it down from time to time. Still, a worthwhile read!
